About Ishigaki Port

Ishigaki Port is located even further south than Okinawa’s main island, at 24°20’N, 124°8’E—making it one of Japan’s southernmost major ports. For centuries, this location has served as an important gateway connecting mainland Japan with Hong Kong, the Philippines, and other Southeast Asian countries.

Natural Beauty

The waters around Ishigaki Port are home to the Sekisei Lagoon National Park, which contains Japan’s largest coral reef system.

This underwater treasure is home to an incredible diversity of marine life, all surrounded by those stunning turquoise waters you see in the photos—except in person, they’re even more beautiful.

A Growing Cruise Destination:

In recent years, the New Port District Passenger Terminal has been gaining attention as a port of call for Asian cruise routes.

Ishigaki continues to develop as a maritime hub connecting Japan and Asia, offering visitors a unique blend of natural wonders, rich culture, and tropical island charm.

It really is a tropical paradise in every sense.

Terminal Facilities & Amenities

What to Expect at the Cruise Terminal

Here’s something good to know before you arrive: as of 2025, the cruise port in Ishigaki is pretty straightforward—it’s basically a working pier without the usual terminal amenities you might be used to. There aren’t permanent shops or restaurants at the dock itself.

Getting Around:

  • When cruise ships are in port, you’ll find shuttle buses and taxis ready to take you into town. That’s really the way to go—the city center is too far for a comfortable walk from the pier.
  • The main downtown area and the ferry terminal for the outer islands are both a bit of a distance, so plan on catching a ride.

The upside? You’ll spend less time in a crowded terminal and more time actually exploring this beautiful island. The shuttle service makes it easy to get where you want to go!

The emerald sea and white clouds I saw while paddling on a SUP in Kabira Bay.

The timeless Okinawan scenery of Taketomi Island, seen from a water buffalo cart or rental bike.
And the warm smiles of locals saying “Kanpai!” — these are measured not in hours, but in memories.

Now go. Ishigaki is waiting.
